Treasurer for GLAN's Board of Trustees 

Opportunity description

The Global Legal Action Network (GLAN), is seeking a Treasurer for our Board of Trustees who, in partnership with GLAN’s Director and Executive Team, will ensure the financial affairs of the organisation are conducted within legal requirements, accounting conventions and good practice for registered charities.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • The Treasurer will be responsible for the financial oversight of the organisation.  

  • Ensuring that proper accounts and records are kept and protected by effective controls.

  • Reviewing GLAN’s financial performance.

  • Carrying out appropriate reviews of financial policy, practices and procedures.

  • Ensuring that there are regular monitoring checks for all financial procedures.

  • Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place.

  • Keeping the Board fully informed about its financial duties and responsibilities.

  • Liaising with the appointed Auditor for the annual review of accounts.

  • Preparing a Treasurers Report for the AGM and advising the Trustees of the financial requirements for the year ahead.


We are seeking an individual from a finance and/or accounting background with:

  • At least ten years experience in this area.

  • Prior experience in a similar role, advising charities on financial matters.

  • An understanding of the regulatory environment and financial challenges of the charitable sector.

  • An understanding of financial accounting and administration for non-profit organisations.

  • A wider involvement with the voluntary sector.

  • Approachability and willingness to deal with enquiries from trustees and staff on an ad hoc basis.


Time Commitment

The Board meets at least 3 times a year and the Treasurer will have regular contact with GLAN's Director.As part of this it is important that the Treasurer is able to occasionally visit the organisations office(s) and be available to the Director’s for consultation. In addition to Board Meetings, other contact – usually electronic or by telephone – will be necessary.

Based in London but working globally, GLAN is the first organisation of its kind that brings together a network of leading lawyers, academics, investigative journalists and NGOs to find innovative legal solutions to human rights problems.



1. Organises regular meetings of the GLAN network to develop innovative legal strategies and identify cases to tackle human rights violations.

2. Builds coalitions and partnerships to develop innovative human rights cases and campaigns. 

3. Harnesses the support of law students, lawyers and other professionals on a pro bono basis to build a sustainable and efficient organisation.
