Direct Marketing and Communications Officer


Salary: £35,000 - 38,000 per annum, 4 days per week.

Hours: 32 hours per week.

Location: Remote or at office in Galway, Ireland.


We are seeking an experienced Marketing and Communications Officer to develop and implement a communications strategy that will increase our supporter base and maximise publicity opportunities. As a young organisation, GLAN is gaining momentum in our cases, funding and public following.  The past year has seen a huge increase in our press mentions, crowdfunding campaigns, newsletter subscribers, social media followers and individual donors which has paved way for an exciting opportunity to harness the potential of this growth.


GLAN works with affected communities to pursue innovative legal actions across borders to challenge states and other powerful actors involved in human rights violations and systemic injustice. Our actions address the most pressing instances of human rights concern and they fall within the following themes: War and occupation; accountability and supply chains; environmental and economic justice; and migration and border violence.

Our diverse strategies unlock the potential of foreign courts and legal mechanisms. Since being established in 2016 we have developed legal strategies directly addressing human rights impacts in over 23 countries and territories. We work with the individuals and communities resisting injustice to  empower and amplify their voices. Our approach is networked and nimble, allowing us to advance cases across multiple issues and jurisdictions despite our compact team.



Individual Giving

  • Grow our individual donor base through targeted email, crowd funding and social media campaigns

  • Develop and deliver an annual stewardship plan consisting of communications for supporters and distribution of membership communications such as welcome emails, newsletters, reports

  • Work with colleagues and external agencies to develop, deliver and maximise crowd funding campaigns

  • Act as the first point of contact for individual supporters and updating our CRM system accordingly

  • Maximise Gift Aid income, ensuring all legislation is complied with and that bi-annual claims are submitted to HMRC



  • Develop a coherent communications plan that unifies our legal work, branding and outreach

  • Use creative and innovative methods to communicate our cases and their progress in an engaging and impactful manner

  • Creation of social media assets including infographics, imagery and video

  • Take ownership of our website, ensuring it is updated as cases progress

  • Manage composition and delivery of our regular communication materials including the monthly newsletter and annual reports

  • Support colleagues with sourcing media coverage and developing press releases for cases

  • Increase our newsletter subscriber base

  • Lead on developing an impactful social media plan across multiple channels



Required Skills

  • Experience with donor cultivation and maintaining relationships

  • Excellent knowledge of a range of digital platforms and how they can be mobilised to meet organisational strategic aims

  • Experience of managing websites with a good understanding of analytics and digital monitoring tools

  • Demonstrable experience of creating engaging and compelling content in a range of formats

  • Experience of strategically growing social media reach and engagement

  • Experience in delivering successful crowd funding campaigns

  • Ability to quickly grasp new subjects and translate complex legal issues into clear social media messages

  • Knowledge of how the media operates and ability to work with journalists and support press function

  • Sound organisational skills including the ability to effectively plan, manage and deliver multiple projects as well as to work effectively under pressure

  • Understanding of brand management and ability to undertake basic design work

  • Strong audio visual design skills
